Tonight I did some reading of ‘Creating Unforgettable Characters’ by Linda Seger 1990. I read into how to write about an engaging and detailed character. I also read into what makes a successful character relationship and to apply contrasts between couples to make them more unique as individuals. I will be applying what I have learnt in this book to how I approach creating my main characters.

Expanding on my idea for the film script, I decided to read ‘Writing The Short Film’ by Pat Cooper and Ken Dancyger (3rd Edtion). I looked at one of their exercises under the chapter of Writing An Original Short Screenplay’ (pg 65) and explored exercise 12 and 13 of using visual images to build character and an optional start up point for my script.

LINDUM

Since our lecture yesterday about the Relay project, I have been thinking about ideas on what I could possibly write about which relates to the title of ‘Lindum’. As this word is a roman name for ‘Lincoln’ I have been thinking about things that relate to the city. This is when I came up with the idea about a homeless man who becomes rich by finding something historical and highly valuable in Lincoln Cathedral. I think this would work quite nicely is very relevant to the title of the film. I also feel it would be easy when it comes to the production due to the fact we are in Lincoln.

DREAMS.

I am still finding it difficult to think of ideas that will stay climatic to the end. I have started thinking of possibly using ideas from dreams that I have had that I can remember. One dream that I can remember very clearly involved a group of people visiting an old castle / manor house which is famous for its historical significance. The day then has a quick turn when the main girl sees a group of people in the distance walking towards to castle with masks on (similar to the masks in ‘The Purge – James DeMonaco”). This then leads to war amongst the visitors and the masked people.  I feel this would be a great idea to use and follow in my script.
